Your sites and their credentials are saved on your computer. A password protects access to the vault. Its strength meter runs entirely on your computer.

With or without Touch ID

Unlock your vault with a password, or use Touch ID on a compatible Mac. If you create your vault with Touch ID, keep the recovery code provided.

A direct route

Files travel between your computer and your chosen server, with no intermediate storage at KongFTP.

Is KongFTP free?

Yes. KongFTP is developed by YES4IT and distributed free of charge on macOS and Windows. Its source code remains private.

Which computers are supported?

The DMG runs on Apple silicon Macs with macOS 13 or later. The EXE and MSI installers target 64-bit Windows 10 and 11 (x64). Windows is a preview release; validation on a Windows PC is still pending. There is no Intel Mac or native Windows ARM installer.

Why might macOS block the first launch?

This first release has no Developer ID signature and is not notarized by Apple. If the first launch is blocked and you trust the download, you can allow KongFTP in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. You do not need to disable Gatekeeper. Organization-managed Macs may not allow this exception. Read Apple’s guidance.

Can I use it without a fingerprint reader?

Yes. You can create and unlock your vault with a password. Touch ID is optional. To set or change your password, unlock the vault and click the key icon, “Vault security”. Your saved sites are preserved.

Which protocols are supported?

KongFTP supports SFTP, explicit and implicit FTPS, and FTP. Choose SFTP or FTPS when your host offers them: they encrypt transfers. Standard FTP sends data without encryption.

Can I import my FileZilla sites?

Yes, using a compatible XML export. KongFTP shows the profiles it can import, duplicates and any missing settings before saving. Some profiles, including passwords protected by a master password, require manual input. Importing does not modify your FileZilla files.

Do my files pass through KongFTP servers?

Transfers connect your computer directly to your chosen server. KongFTP does not provide cloud storage for your files. Saved credentials remain in the app’s encrypted local vault.

Can I transfer entire folders?

For now, transfers support individual files or multiple selected files. You can browse and create folders, but recursive folder transfers and resuming interrupted transfers are not available yet.

    Install the app

    Open the downloaded DMG, then drag KongFTP into your Applications folder.

  2. 02

    Allow the first launch

    If macOS blocks the app, follow the steps to allow it after this first attempt. This release is not notarized by Apple.

  3. 03

    Create your vault

    Choose a password or Touch ID, then add a server or import your FileZilla sites.

Download the SHA256SUMS.txt file in the same folder as the DMG. Open that folder in Terminal and calculate its checksum:

Install, then connect.

Choose one format: EXE or MSI.

    Run the installer

    Download either the EXE or MSI, open it and follow the wizard. Installation is intended for your user account.

  2. 02

    Check the download

    If Windows shows a warning, verify the source and checksum before proceeding. Keep Windows security protections enabled. Company policies may block unsigned applications.

  3. 03

    Create your vault

    Open KongFTP from the Start menu. Create your vault password, then add your servers. Windows Hello is not integrated in this version.
